Getting Started
What to expect in the beginning and answers to common questions when starting therapy.
-
The first session is all about getting to know each other. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, your goals, and begin collaborating on a treatment plan.
-
Finding the right therapist is SO important. During our free phone consultation, we'll talk about what you're looking for, answer your questions, and see whether my approach feels like a good fit for you.
-
I generally recommend meeting weekly when first getting started so that we can hit the ground running and get to know each other. We’ll then adjust frequency based on clinical needs and progress.
-
I hate giving this answer, but it’s true - there's no one size fits all. Some people come to therapy for a specific challenge and work together for several months, while others benefit from longer-term support.

Therapy has SO many acronyms, especially when it comes to talking about approaches and modalities. And you don’t need to become an expert on what any of them mean, so I’ll aim to keep this straightforward.
To me, therapy starts with a solid relational foundation. From there, I I very much believe that my clients are their best experts and advocates, and I can provide tools, nudges, and even some laughs along the way.
-
No! Therapy isn't about forcing yourself to disclose things before you're ready. We'll work together to create enough safety for you to explore difficult experiences at a pace that feels manageable.
-
Absolutely not. Art therapy is an invitation, not an expectation. You don't need to consider yourself artistic or creative, and you won't be asked to make art unless it's something you want to explore.
Investment & Payment
Information about fees, payment options, and using insurance benefits.
-
I am in-network with select insurance plans. If you are considering using insurance, I'm happy to help you understand whether your plan is accepted and what your estimated benefits may be.
Insurance coverage is not required to work together. Private-pay therapy is also available for clients who prefer to use out-of-network benefits or pay directly for services.
-
Many of my clients choose private pay because it allows for greater flexibility, privacy, and depth in their therapy sessions.
Insurance often requires a mental health diagnosis and can limit the type, frequency, or focus of therapy. Insurance can also request all treatment notes and documentation to verify benefits.
-
Yes! I provide monthly superbills for clients seeking out-of-network reimbursement for plans I am not credentialed with.
